Storm Islands
Storm Islands are an alliance event that operates on a completely different principle than classic mainland events. It's not about points for repelled attacks at home, but about mining and transporting aquamarine. You set out for the archipelago, plundering islands and attacking the storm fortresses controlled by the natives, collecting aquamarine and trying to transport it with cargo ships to the Great Empire before the lunar storm strikes. The points you earn count for the entire alliance. The winning alliance ultimately receives the best rewards, and its leader earns the title of Storm Lord. It is an economic and offensive event where the speed of mining, logistics of transport, and teamwork in the alliance are crucial. Below, I will break down how it all works and where you can gain the most.
How Storm Islands Work
You will move to your own archipelago, where you have a separate economy from the mainland. The goal is to collect as much aquamarine as possible. You obtain it in two ways: by plundering islands with resources and attacking the storm fortresses controlled by the natives. There are no waves of attacks coming at you here. The initiative is yours; you attack and mine.
The collected aquamarine does not earn points on its own. You must load it onto a cargo ship and transport it to the Great Empire. Only the transported aquamarine will be converted into cargo points. And here lies the catch of the entire event: you are in a race against time. Every now and then, a lunar storm strikes, which levels the islands. Anything you haven't safely transported at that moment is lost.
Cargo points are accumulated for the entire alliance. You are not playing just for yourself, but contributing to a common account. Based on the alliance's placement, its members will receive rewards, and the leader of the best alliance will become the Storm Lord.
The Lunar Storm, Around Which Everything Revolves
This is the heart of the entire event and the main thing you need to have under your skin. The lunar storm comes regularly and is merciless. It destroys castles on the islands, sweeps away resources and most buildings, resets the cargo points you failed to claim, and sends your units back to the main castle.
The practical impact is clear: aquamarine that is on the islands or still sailing on a ship at the moment of the storm is gone. Therefore, the entire pace of the event is governed by how much time remains until the storm. At the beginning of the cycle, you can mine and accumulate in peace. As the storm approaches, you switch to transport mode and try to get as much material to safety as possible.
Do not plan mining at the last minute. Cargo ships need their time, and if the storm strikes before the ship arrives, the entire load will be in vain. It is better to transport a bit earlier and with a buffer than to push for the last mined piece.
Aquamarine and What to Do with It
Aquamarine is the main resource and currency of the entire event. You have two options with it, and both make sense, just at different times.
The first option is to transport it by cargo ship to the Great Empire. This will convert aquamarine into cargo points that go to your alliance's ranking. This is the path to placement and alliance rewards.
The second option is to exchange aquamarine with NPC Luna Stormrider. With her, you can exchange the resource for items and tools that will be useful to you. Here, it is important not to spend hastily. Go through the entire offer and consider whether a few extra points in the ranking will help you more at that moment, or a specific item from Luna. The decision between "transport for points" and "exchange for equipment" is one of the main tactical choices of the entire event.
The Alliance Dimension, Don't Forget
Storm Islands are fundamentally an alliance matter, and this significantly changes the strategy. Cargo points are accumulated for the alliance as a whole, not just for you. Rewards for placement in the ranking are given to alliance members based on how well the alliance performed.
This leads to an important point: if you are without an alliance, you will not receive any rewards for points at the end of the event. You can mine, complete tasks, and use Luna's ship and exchange, but alliance rewards will pass you by. If you want to get the most out of the event, play in an alliance and agree on a common approach.
Teamwork pays off. When you divide roles within the alliance, with some plundering islands, some focusing on storm fortresses, and everyone monitoring transport before the storm, you will accumulate more points than from chaotic solo efforts by each individual.
Best Strategies
Managing time until the storm is number one. Divide the entire cycle into a mining phase and a transport phase. As long as the storm is far away, feel free to accumulate and attack. As it approaches, switch to transport and do not allow untransported aquamarine to remain on the islands or ships.
Have the right tools for storm fortresses. For attacks against fortresses, special island tools such as bamboo ladders, shaped shields, lunar storm banners, or large ballistae are useful. These tools work specifically against storm fortresses, so deploy them where they matter, and do not waste them elsewhere.
Attack with offensive units, not defensive ones. Here you are in the role of an attacker, so you need an army for plundering and conquering, not a crew for defense. Adjust what you send to the islands accordingly.
Decide between points and exchange thoughtfully. Leave part of the aquamarine to be transported for alliance points, and save part for useful items with Luna Stormrider if you need any. And do all of this in coordination with the alliance, as your combined total determines the rewards.
Common Mistakes
Accumulating aquamarine just before the storm. A classic. A player mines until the last moment, the storm strikes before the ship arrives, and everything is wasted. Transport continuously and with a buffer.
Ignoring the lunar storm. Those who do not monitor how much time remains until the storm will sooner or later lose a lot of collected material and cargo points. The pace of the event is governed by the storm, not by mood.
Playing without an alliance while expecting rewards. Without an alliance, you will not receive rewards for points. If you want rewards from the ranking, you must be in an alliance and play with it.
Hasty exchanges with Luna Stormrider. Wasting aquamarine on the first item that catches your eye will either cost you points or a better item. Go through the offer and think it over.
Using the wrong tools and units. Trying to conquer storm fortresses without special island tools or sending defensive units to an offensive event only wastes your army unnecessarily.
