The Best Army for Nomads and Defense Events

Nomads and defense events are painted by many players as horror, but in reality, they are the most predictable content in the game. The attack comes in waves, you know in advance the ratio of melee units and ranged units coming at you, and your task is to fill the correct slots with the right defenders. You do not earn points based on how many of your own units you have in the slots, but rather for how many enemy attackers your defense kills. This leads to the entire strategy. If you have these units in your barracks, you have what to build: Ice Guardian of the Amazon, Corrupted Subject, Rotten Axe Carrier, Dragon Claws, Ice Amazon Huntress, Dilapidated Archer, and Composite Bowman Veteran. And beware of Dragonfire, it is not a defender, it does not belong in defense at all. I will show you how to assemble everything so that the event yields maximum points and not losses.

Dragonfire does not belong in defense, do not confuse a tool with a unit

I will start with the most important thing, because many players make mistakes here. Dragonfire is NOT a defensive unit. It is an offensive tool, a weapon that you take into attacks on foreign castles and camps, not something you place in your own defense slots. If you stuff it into defense against Nomads or a defense event, it will not protect you at all, you will only lose valuable offensive material. So remember this: defenders (melee units and ranged units) go into defense, tools like Dragonfire should be saved for attack. The backbone of your melee defense consists of Ice Guardian of the Amazon and Dragon Claws, not Dragonfire.

First, divide defenders into melee and ranged

The foundation on which everything stands. A defense event and Nomads will always tell you the ratio of melee attackers and ranged attackers coming at you, and you must adapt your slot occupation accordingly. From your arsenal, the heavy melee defenders mainly include Ice Guardian of the Amazon, Dragon Claws, and Rotten Axe Carrier. In contrast, Ice Amazon Huntress, Dilapidated Archer, and Composite Bowman Veteran make up your ranged line. Key rule: melee defenders defend against melee attacks, ranged units against ranged attackers. When you place a ranged unit in a slot that calls for melee defense (or vice versa), the unit only receives a fraction of its value, kills fewer attackers, and you unnecessarily lose points. So keep an eye on the ratio before you build anything.

Ice Guardian of the Amazon and Dragon Claws form the backbone of melee defense

Your core against melee attacks consists of Ice Guardian of the Amazon and Dragon Claws. Consider Ice Guardian of the Amazon as your main melee tank, it absorbs the impact and kills many attackers before they reach you. Complement it with Dragon Claws as a second hard melee unit, this duo works great together. These two are the units you want to have in the highest numbers in melee defense slots, because every killed attacker is a point. Rotten Axe Carrier is your third, slightly weaker melee defense, consider it as a supplement when your top melee units run out. Here, no saving, you stuff the toughest units you have into melee defense slots.

Ranged slots for Amazon, arrows, and composite

Against waves of attackers (and especially against enemy ranged units), your ranged line will save you. Ice Amazon Huntress is your top choice for ranged defense, prioritize her and occupy the main ranged slots with her. Complement her with Dilapidated Archer and Composite Bowman Veteran, who will fill the remaining ranged slots. The Veteran is a solid support and composite is useful wherever you need to maintain ranged defense. Just like with melee units, more good ranged units in the right slots means more killed attackers and more points. And again, the key point, never place ranged units in melee slots where the enemy would shred them without effect and you would lose points.

Rotten Axe Carrier and Corrupted Subject as the second wave of melee defense

When your top melee units run out, it’s time for Rotten Axe Carrier and Corrupted Subject. Consider both as cheaper melee defense that you will fill slots with when you no longer have Ice Guardian of the Amazon or Dragon Claws left. However, be careful, do not fill slots just blindly 'to be occupied'. You earn points for killed attackers, not for the number of your own units in the slots, so a weak unit in the wrong type of slot will not bring you points. It makes sense to deploy them only where they defend against the correct type of attack (melee against melee attack) and where they can realistically kill something. If you have more pieces of Corrupted Subject or Rotten Axe Carrier, use them to cover additional melee slots to make your defense as wide as possible.

How to maximize points with a strong static setup

Remember this well, defense is STATIC for the entire attack. Once you place units in the slots, you cannot move, replenish, or 'hide the best defenders for the last wave' during the waves. The attack will occur against the setup you prepared in advance. Therefore, the whole game is about building one as strong static defense as possible right at the beginning: place Ice Guardian of the Amazon and Dragon Claws in melee slots, Ice Amazon Huntress in ranged slots, and fill the rest with Rotten Axe Carrier, Corrupted Subject, Dilapidated Archer, and Composite Bowman Veteran according to what type of slot is needed. Keep an eye on the ratio of melee vs. ranged that the event shows you, and based on that, plan how many melee and how many ranged slots you will occupy. The goal is singular: to have your setup kill as many attackers as possible. For every killed attacker, points drop, so a strong and correctly divided defense = high score.

The main advice is: respect the type of slot and do not confuse defenders with offensive tools. Leave Dragonfire at home for attack, it does not belong in defense. Place Ice Guardian of the Amazon and Dragon Claws in melee slots, Ice Amazon Huntress with Dilapidated Archer and Composite Bowman Veteran in ranged slots, and use the cheaper Rotten Axe Carrier and Corrupted Subject to cover the remaining melee slots. Remember, you earn points for killed attackers, not for the number of your own units, and that defense is static, you set it once and do not move it. When you place each unit in the correct type of slot according to the ratio shown by the event, Nomads and defense events will turn from a nightmare into a regular source of points.
